Ocean Art Series
These pieces cross the visual divide between photography and painting.
I have been working this project for the past couple of years, floating in the water with nothing but my camera and flippers. These shots are all taken right at the point where the sun is waking up over the edge of the world. From experience, the best ones are snapped during the middle of winter when the air and waters are like ice.
These images are produced by playing around with the focal point, the exposure, aperture and ultimately the light and colours from the rising sun as it bounces off the smooth dawn waters.
None of these images have been photoshopped in any way.

The stunning scene this morning at Manly. A cross between early morning fog and low lying rain clouds over Manly this morning created an eerie environment floating out at sea. It felt like I was on a movie set. Sydney’s morning air is currently around 7 degrees, a good 12 degrees colder than the water’s current temperature so it was actually really nice to get in out of the cold.

The sun does amazing things for the soul. The benefits of the rise sun even more so. Yellow is the colour of the sun and depicts happiness. Yellow is a powerful colour in inducing confidence, and self-esteem and other positive emotions such as cheerfulness and spirit. Yellow also causes the brain to release serotonin, giving the viewer a feeling of optimism.
